Tips for joining sheet metal sheets:
Stich weld 15mm every 200mm all sides and underneath on crossmembers.
Join sheet metal sheets on a crossmember, but
– leave 3mm gap between sheets. weld sheets together and to crossmember in one go.
– stitch the sheets to the crossmembers from underneath BEFORE stitching and fully welding the join up top.
– turn your welder current down for a flush weld without rippling.
Avoid putting heat into your sheet metal by:
– stitching opposite sides.
– cooling welds with air compressor.
– just take your time and go super slow.
Use Sikaflex 11FC polyurethane (not silicone) adhesive:
– to fill seams where water may get in (crossmembers, sides) for rustproofing.
– available in black color.
– put a long bead on top of crossmember before laying down sheet.
Weld through primer:
– for use between sheets when plug welding.
– tip: for plug welding, grind off any weld through primer in weld area before welding using cut off drill bit or milling bit.
