Myst 5 End of Ages
The stories, the puzzles, the artwork; just amazing. Myst and Riven used cutscene videos to transition the player. Uru offered continuous free view and 3rd person perspective. Then in Myst 4 Revelation we went back to 1st person view point and click, but with a twist – we have ‘fish eye lens’ spherical mapped scenery with in-game videos that adjust to the player’s viewing angle; you can look around freely whilst seamlessly integrated video is playing in your peripheral vision. Amazing.
“Haven” and particularly “Spire” were most memorable. Revisiting Ahnonay through time and the cute little crab creatures was very clever and surprising. Todelmer observatory with it’s stunning skybox, the fortress in Gahreesen, the story of the Garden Age of king Shomat, cable carts and trams, Saavedro, Sirrus and Achenar, linking books; a magical journey.
